The €329 phone that costs more than the €339 phone

A worked comparison of fictional Galaxy A56 offers shows why storage, condition, seller, delivery and the complete checkout amount belong beside the headline price.

Compare the purchase you would actually receive, at the price you would actually pay. A smaller number on the listing is only the beginning of that comparison.

Here is a worked example for delivery to Greece. Every shop name, price, delivery charge and offer below is fictional. They are arithmetic examples, not available deals, price-history observations or recommendations of sellers. We use a real phone configuration so the matching step is concrete.

Write down the exact configuration

Our target is a new Samsung Galaxy A56 5G, 256GB storage, 8GB RAM, Awesome Lightgray, with model code SM-A566BZACEUE. Samsung’s Greek specification page identifies that configuration; we checked the source on 4 November 2026. It does not substantiate any of the fictional prices below.

For a real comparison, record the full model code, storage, RAM where relevant, colour if it matters to you, condition and actual seller. Also check delivery to your postcode. A product being listed in a country does not establish that its shown delivery charge covers your address.

Make the amounts comparable

Assume you already own a suitable charger and need no additional accessories. All amounts in this table include applicable tax. Delivery is a separate charge only where shown. No subscription, instalment arrangement, coupon or trade-in is required in the example.

Shop C128GB, new€309€0€309Different storage; a separate choice
Shop D256GB, refurbished€299€8€307Different condition; investigate separately

Shop A appears €10 cheaper when you read only the phone prices. At checkout, €329 + €12 = €341, while €339 + €0 = €339. Shop B therefore has the lower entered cash price by €2 for the matched new-phone offers.

That €2 result does not establish that B is a better seller. Delivery timing, cancellation and return terms, who handles a problem, and your confidence in the listing still need checking. The example has supplied none of that evidence. A small price difference is a weak reason to accept material uncertainty.

Give cheaper alternatives their own decision

Shop C may be a useful option if 128GB meets your needs. Decide that deliberately, then compare equivalent 128GB offers. It is not a lower price for the selected 256GB configuration.

Shop D may also be worth considering. Ask what its condition description means for this particular unit, what is known about the battery, which accessories are included and what the seller’s return and repair terms say. A refurbished label by itself does not supply those answers. The used-phone checklist helps you keep the unknowns visible.

If colour is flexible, you can expand the comparison to other colours and label that choice. If RAM or storage is omitted, ask the seller to confirm it. Do not fill in missing variant information from a similar product photo.

Keep conditional money separate

A possible €60 trade-in receipt is not automatically a €60 reduction in today’s payment. Check whether the offer is confirmed, what condition it assumes, and when the money or credit becomes available. A later receipt leaves the original checkout payment to fund first. Never deduct an already applied credit twice.

Likewise, do not silently subtract an unclaimed cashback or an unverified coupon. If you want to explore one, write a second scenario with its conditions beside it. Keep the ordinary checkout comparison visible so the decision still makes sense without that benefit.

The table also assumes no necessary accessory purchase. If your chosen phone requires something you do not already have, add its real cost to the relevant plan. An optional accessory does not become necessary because it appears in a bundle.

Use FixIndex, then check the actual listing

Open the Galaxy A56 evidence and offer page, select the market and inspect the recorded offer date and variant information. Offer coverage and freshness can change; there may be no qualifying offer for your exact configuration. Confirm the final product, seller, availability and complete payment with the retailer before buying.

If you are comparing different models, use the shortlist. A shared comparison carries the model choices and market; it opens the evidence available on the next visit rather than locking a price. For chart interpretation, see how to read phone price history.

If this purchase would replace a phone you already own, run the repair worksheet first. Keeping it, obtaining a diagnosis or choosing a less expensive configuration may solve the original problem. Our repair-as-a-bridge example shows how to include a later replacement when a repair only buys time.

Our view: use the lowest comparable checkout total as an input, alongside the evidence and terms that matter to you. Affiliate commission does not decide which purchase is suitable or justify spending more. Some marked retailer links on model pages may earn FixIndex a commission; see the affiliate disclosure.

Save the offers you are checking

Use the checkout comparison with the actual item price, delivery, unavoidable charges and any immediate discount you qualify for. Keep up to three candidates in this browser, with their exact configuration, condition and observation date. Leave a missing amount blank until you can confirm it; record zero only when there is no charge. Later cashback and trade-in estimates stay separate from the amount due now.
