Your phone. Your figures.

Repair or replace?

Put a real repair quote beside the replacement you are considering. Use the same period for both plans, then save your figures and return when you know more.

1. Set the comparison

Start with the figures you know

You can save an incomplete worksheet. A blank amount means unknown; enter 0 only when you intend to include no cost or proceeds.

Changing the phone keeps your entered figures. Recheck the quote and whole-period plan for the newly selected phone before comparing.

Choose 1–120 whole months. This is your planning period, not a prediction of either phone’s life or support.

Use a decimal point or comma, with up to two decimal places and no thousands separators.

2. Repair the current phone

A complete quote includes the repair parts, labour and tax. Add separate charges under Other immediate repair costs.

Enter the amount you have been given. A parts-only or unconfirmed amount can be saved, but cannot complete the comparison.

Add delivery, diagnosis or other charges not already in the quote. Enter 0 if there are none; do not count a charge twice.

Your estimate for the whole period: other repairs or a later replacement if this repair is only a bridge. Enter 0 to explicitly assume none.

3. Buy a replacement

Include tax, delivery and required extras. Use the total before old-phone proceeds; if a trade-in credit is already deducted, do not enter that credit again below.

Money or credit you expect to receive or use for the current phone, after fees. Enter 0 if keeping it or if the credit is already deducted from checkout.

Your estimate for any further repairs or replacements needed over the same period. Enter 0 to explicitly assume none.

Sale proceeds or trade-in credit may arrive later. The checkout amount is shown separately so an expected receipt does not hide the purchase payment.

4. Check the whole period

This records your assumption. If repair is only a bridge, include the later replacement in the repair plan. A cost comparison cannot establish reliability or software support.

Your spending comparison

Choose a common period

These are the figures currently in the form. Save them if you want to keep this version.

Add the figures you know. The comparison stays incomplete while required amounts or assumptions are unknown.

This compares the cash figures you entered. A lower amount alone does not establish which phone or repair will suit you.

How this worksheet works

Use complete prices and one common period. All totals are added and subtracted in cents; no missing amount is silently replaced with zero.

  • Repair plan = complete repair quote + other immediate repair costs + later repair-plan spending.
  • Replacement plan = checkout total − current-phone proceeds + later replacement-plan spending.

The result is a spending plan, not a full valuation. It does not include future resale proceeds, the phones’ values at the end of the period, financing costs, or costs you have not entered. It does not predict faults, lifespan or software support.

Before deciding

  • Confirm the fault, complete quote and repair terms with the provider.
  • Check that the proposed device and its software support meet your needs for the period.
  • Review the exact replacement model, storage, condition and final price.
  • Revisit uncertain figures. A shorter planning period may be more useful than a confident-looking estimate you cannot support.
