iPhone 15 Pro Max: eSIM and physical SIM

Can this phone use two lines, keep a home number while you travel, and take a physical SIM? What follows is copied from the maker’s pages. Where a page does not say, this page says unknown.

Configuration in the sources below

Physical nano-SIM trayOne
eSIMYes

Dual-SIM mode. One physical nano-SIM plus an eSIM, or two eSIMs.

Both lines active. Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS). Apple’s Dual SIM article says both lines can make and receive calls, and that the iPhone uses one cellular data network at a time.

Imported or wrong region

iPhone 15 Pro Max models bought in the United States are eSIM only: no nano-SIM tray. Outside the United States, Apple lists a nano-SIM and an eSIM. A used import from the US will not take a physical SIM. In mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, Apple says eSIM support and dual nano-SIM differ on some models. We do not state a tray count for a unit bought there.
