iPhone 14: eSIM and physical SIM
Can this phone use two lines, keep a home number while you travel, and take a physical SIM? What follows is copied from the maker’s pages. Where a page does not say, this page says unknown.
Model id on file A2882source
Configuration in the sources below
Dual-SIM mode. One physical nano-SIM plus an eSIM, or two eSIMs.
Both lines active. Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS). Apple’s Dual SIM article says both lines can make and receive calls, and that the iPhone uses one cellular data network at a time.
Imported or wrong region
iPhone 14 models bought in the United States are eSIM only: no nano-SIM tray. Outside the United States, Apple lists a nano-SIM and an eSIM. A used import from the US will not take a physical SIM. In mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, Apple says eSIM support and dual nano-SIM differ on some models. We do not state a tray count for a unit bought there.
Other configuration the maker states
Bought in the United States
Dual-SIM mode. Two eSIMs. No physical nano-SIM in this configuration.
Both lines active. Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS). Apple’s Dual SIM article says both lines can make and receive calls, and that the iPhone uses one cellular data network at a time.
What this means in Greece and the EU
- On the configuration above, a physical nano-SIM can stay in the tray — a Cosmote, Vodafone or Nova number, for example — while a second line is an eSIM. Whether that carrier will install an eSIM, and whether a travel plan downloads, is not checked here.
- Apple’s Dual SIM article says the carrier has to support eSIM, and that using two carriers needs an unlocked iPhone or both plans from the same carrier. We do not check a Greek or other EU carrier.
- Carrier lock, VoLTE, and whether an eSIM profile downloads are out of scope here. This page is not a travel-eSIM shop.
How this page is made
- Tray count, eSIM and dual-SIM mode come from a hand-checked maker page, with the https address and the date we read it. We do not use a spec-site scrape.
- A blank in that file stays unknown. We do not turn a missing tray count into zero, and we do not turn a missing eSIM line into no.
- DSDS or DSDA is written only when the maker names it. Otherwise the page says two lines can be configured and that active behaviour depends on the software and the carrier.
- A regional difference is written only when the maker’s pages say the hardware differs, or when we have read only one spec and have not compared other model codes.
Still open: maker pages for the rest of the catalogue, and a sign-off before this preview is indexed. Carrier lock, VoLTE and eSIM download stay out of scope.
