iPhone 17e vs 17 at 256GB: is the €260 premium useful?

Two new Black 256GB iPhones in a 5 November Greek price snapshot. Decide whether the 17's display and camera options justify the confirmed checkout premium.

Start with the iPhone 17e if it meets your needs. Pay more for the iPhone 17 when its display or additional camera options solve something you care about enough to justify the final price gap. The same storage is available in both; buying the more expensive model needs a reason beyond wanting 256GB.

On 5 November 2026, FixIndex captured Public observations of €879 for a new Black iPhone 17e 256GB and €1,139 for a new Black iPhone 17 256GB, both for Greece. That is a €260 item-price difference with matching recorded capacity, colour, condition, retailer and country. It is not a completed checkout, a whole-market price survey or a hands-on review. We checked the manufacturer specifications that day.

Start with the two actual listings

These rows come from the dated iPhone 17e source snapshot and iPhone 17 source snapshot. The article preserves that observation rather than silently updating its example after prices move.

Selected Public listingMarket / conditionRetailer referenceObserved item price
iPhone 17e, 256GB, BlackGreece / new2072084€879.00
iPhone 17, 256GB, BlackGreece / new2072088€1,139.00

€1,139 − €879 = €260. Confirm delivery, taxes, mandatory fees, payment conditions and stock before using that difference. If the seller, regional model or required accessory changes, compare the complete purchase again. A Greek storefront and a model-family name do not by themselves establish the exact regional unit or its service arrangements.

Do not replace this comparison with the lowest price attached to either model name. A 512GB listing, a different condition or a conditional trade-in price changes what you are buying.

Which differences could earn the premium?

Apple’s Greek specifications for iPhone 17e and iPhone 17 describe the following hardware. Screen sizes are diagonal descriptions; actual viewable areas are smaller.

Published specificationiPhone 17eiPhone 17
Display6.1-inch OLED6.3-inch OLED, ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On
Rear cameras48MP main48MP main and 48MP ultrawide; macro capability
Front camera12MP TrueDepth18MP Center Stage

The display is a useful first test because you use it throughout the day. Try ordinary scrolling, reading and the text size you prefer on both devices. If the 17’s display makes a difference you value, that can be a coherent reason to pay. If you barely notice or do not care, remove it from your justification instead of counting every specification as a benefit.

The additional rear-camera option is a second clear distinction. If you regularly want to fit a room, a landscape or a group into the frame, investigate the ultrawide. If close-ups are important, examine macro examples. For frequent video calls, check whether the front-camera framing features serve your actual setup.

Those are tasks to evaluate, not claims that our tests found better pictures. Megapixels alone cannot establish image quality, and a feature you will not use has little value in your decision. Compare representative results before assigning money to a camera difference.

What the extra money does not uniquely provide

Both specification pages list 256GB storage, USB-C and MagSafe. The 17e already offers those capabilities. Charging specifications and accessory requirements differ, so reuse a suitable existing setup where it meets your needs and price any necessary replacement separately.

This avoids a common expensive detour: choosing the higher model for a requirement the lower one already meets, then buying another accessory without checking what you own. The USB-C buying guide explains which compatibility details to establish; it does not promise a charging speed for these two models.

We are also not treating the model number or price tier as a guarantee of longer useful life. Read the current 17e support evidence and 17 support evidence. A calculated EU planning floor is not an Apple announcement of a final update date. Our support-date method explains that distinction. A phone’s battery, repair needs and suitability for your apps remain separate questions.

Give €260 a job in the budget

For an illustrative 36-month plan, €260 is approximately €7.22 per month, or €86.67 per year. This is only the upfront item-price premium spread over a chosen period. It does not finance the phone, predict that either device lasts three years or calculate complete ownership costs.

Ask yourself: “Would I pay this amount for the display and camera features I expect to use?” If your answer depends on getting more money when you sell the 17, keep that as a separate uncertain scenario. We have no verified future resale value for either device.

Open the checkout comparison and enter the delivered amounts you can confirm, along with the exact listings. Return when you have a missing charge or a revised price. Record a trade-in credit only under its actual conditions and avoid subtracting it again if it is already included in the payable amount.

No matched installed battery or screen repair quotes have been established for this comparison. An official part price, when available, would still exclude any service work not explicitly included. If those future costs matter to your choice, request complete quotes and recalculate; do not silently put zero into an unknown field.

Three sensible outcomes

  • Choose 17e if its display, cameras and other requirements are sufficient, and its confirmed total is lower. Keeping the difference is a reasoned outcome.
  • Choose 17 if the specific display or camera features justify the actual premium to you. The observed €260 is a starting question, not a universal spending limit.
  • Keep or repair your current phone if it already does the job. Comparing two new purchases does not establish that replacing an existing phone is worthwhile. Use the repair worksheet for that decision.

Open the 17e/17 shortlist preview for Greece, then inspect current 17e offers and current 17 offers. Select Greece, 256GB and the colour you will accept. The shortlist preview does not replace your saved choices unless you choose to save it.
